More about Jewellery Options & Quality.....
Choosing jewellery for a new piercing is obviously quite different from shopping for a ring to wear on your finger. Because body jewellery is worn inside a wound and is in contact with your internal tissues, only certain products are suitable. The look of the jewellery that is placed in your fresh piercing must be secondary to aspects that affect safety and compatibility with your body. The size, style, material, and quality of the initial piece of jewellery all affect your ability to heal. Remember that the piercing location is fixed, but the jewellery can be changed after you have successfully healed.
Do not forget that cost alone should never be the key factor in your purchase. At Asgard's we use only the best quality jewellery for your initial piercing and it comes with a lifetime guarantee! Consider the following options for a new piercing:
1 -Gold Lovers.....
Gold (yellow or white) is appropriate for initial piercings if it is 14k or higher, nickel-free, and alloyed for biocompatibility. Gold higher than 18k is too soft for body jewellery because it can easily be scratched or nicked.
Our gold jewellery pieces either have surgical steel or titanium posts, or are gold plated over surgical steel or titanium.
Most cheap gold plated jewellery is not acceptable for fresh piercings. These involve coating a cheaper base metal with a layer of gold. The gold surface (which is very thin—measured in millionths of an inch) can wear or chip off.
2 -Titanium is Ideal for Hypersensitive Users
Those with hypersensitivity issues should use Titanium. Titanium is a preferred material for initial piercings because it’s an elemental metal – it doesn’t contain nickel. Titanium is as strong as steel, but up to 60% lighter. It does not corrode, does not tarnish, it does not react to sunlight, salt-water, or any body chemistry, It can also be safely anodized to produce many vibrant colors and in its pure state, is totally non-allergenic. It is the perfect solution for a sensitive body that is having problems with healing a piercing.
Unfortunately, Implant Grade Titanium and Gold are more expensive material's so the price of the
jewellery is going to be a bit higher,
BUT you are worth it!
Surgical Steel as a Body Jewellery Material
We don't offer Surgical Steel for our initial piercings, but you can purchase jewellery items. Surgical Steel is one of the most popular body jewellery materials. Surgical Steel is a type of stainless steel with specific alloys. Some of these alloys include nickel, which is why generic stainless steel is not suitable.
In order to produce body-friendly material that can be used for body jewelry and implants, steel has to be treated in specific ways. What is colloquially known as Surgical Steel is a material with specific alloys and properties. There are many different grades of Surgical Steel but only a few are body-friendly and suitable for body jewellery.
Externally threaded jewelry has the screw pattern cut into the post, and this comparatively rough surface is passed through the tissue to insert and remove the jewellery. Bacteria can live in the threading crevices which come in contact with the piercing if externally threaded jewellery is being used. New piercings are susceptible to irritation and infection which can cause a whole range of problems and using externally threaded jewellery unfortunately increases that risk.
Alternatively, in Internally threaded jewellery, the part of the jewellery that passes through your skin is smooth and the threads are on the removable end(s), such as balls, gems, or spikes. Internally threaded jewellery avoids any possibility of scraping your tissue with sharp threads, which is especially important with fresh piercings. Having internally threaded jewellery inserted in a fresh piercing is much more comfortable due to the smooth surface compared to the ridged surface of externally threaded pieces. But this is not the only benefit - it is usually much easier to change the fittings!
Thread-less (or “press-fit”) jewellery is a great alternative that uses a pin coupling on the ornamental end, and there are no screw threads at all.
85% of the the jewellery that we pierce with is thread-less, which means the tops are infinitely interchangeable, even with other companies!
